Zarouhie Abdalian: To History

Altman Siegel Gallery

Abdalian's new body of work includes sculpture, works on fabric, and sound, all of which advance her investigation into the fundamental nature of human work, its preconditions and its artifacts. Throughout the exhibition, rock and stone stand emblematically for the subject of labor–the raw material to which work is applied.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Zarouhie Abdalian: To History :

In this, her second solo exhibition with Altman Siegel, Zarouhie Abdalian continues her investigations into labor with a series of new sculptures, works on fabric and sound installation created in collaboration with Joseph Rosenzweig. A series of rubbings, created with red pencil on fabric, testify to the surface of a six-ton wrecking ball used at demolition sites across the U.S.
