Rodney Ewing, The Unexpected Griot

Southern Exposure

Rodney Ewing's installation Days and Occasions: The Unexpected Griot visualizes overheard conversational fragments, collected over time, by stenciling them in powdered graphite directly onto the Alabama Street-facing gallery wall of Southern Exposure.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Rodney Ewing, The Unexpected Griot :

Rodney Ewing’s new site-specific wall drawing features text gleaned from overheard conversations, gathered over the course of the year. The work was produced on site in September and his fugitive process—powdered graphite stenciled directly on the wall—gradually emerged as a visual accumulation of accidental intimacies, community memories and public declarations.
