The Matter of Photography

Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University

Featuring artists from twelve different countries, this exhibition presents a wide range of creative responses to photography as an artistic medium and a communicative tool uniquely suited to modern media landscapes and globalized economies. The artists in this exhibition resist the impulse to "document" or "photograph anew" the world immediately around them.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about The Matter of Photography :

Featuring works from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States, this exhibition considers the changing form and role of photography in the contemporary media landscape and globalized economy. Featuring prints, drawings, photocopies, and audio installations-and works by Alfredo Jarr, Oscar Muñoz, and Ana Mendieta, among many others. Be sure to check out the catalog.
