Joan Brown: In Living Color

Richmond Art Center

An exhibition of works on paper, "Joan Brown : In Living Color," reflects the bold originality and the continued impact Brown has had on artists, educators, and collectors in the Bay Area and beyond.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Joan Brown: In Living Color :

Beloved Bay Area artist and legendary figurative painter and educator Joan Brown is revisited in this deep exploration of her work and legacy as a pioneering West Coast artist. A champion of beat culture and funk art, Brown never ceased drawing figures. Many works on view are from the artist’s estate, presented publicly for the time, including numerous works on paper.
