Klimt & Rodin: An Artistic Encounter

Legion of Honor

The exhibition celebrates the legacies of these two pioneers, who each broke the reigning aesthetic boundaries of the time to find new vocabularies and create powerful agendas for modern painting and sculpture.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Klimt & Rodin: An Artistic Encounter :

Marking the first survey of Gustav Klimt’s work in California, this exhibition considers the diverse connections between the work of two extraordinary artists on the occasion of the centenary of Rodin’s death (1917) and Klimt’s (1918).  Featuring 30 works by Klimt, including the iconic “Nuda Veritas,” 1899, then an extraordinary rebuke to the conservative art establishment.
