Ugo Rondinone: The World Just Makes Me Laugh

UC Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive

Seemingly lighthearted motifs including rainbows, clowns, and clown shoes take on a melancholy tone in this riveting and psychologically intense installation.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Ugo Rondinone: The World Just Makes Me Laugh :

The centerpiece of this solo exhibition, the artist’s first solo show in the Bay Area, is an installation of 45 life-sized and highly realistic clown sculptures positioned throughout the gallery and set amidst a collection of thousands of rainbow drawings produced by children from around the world, including drawings from a community art-making day at BAMPFA in June.
