Terence Davies: Cinema, Memory, Emotion

UC Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive

BAMPFA presents a selection of British writer/director Terence Davies's films upon the release of his masterful A Quiet Passion, about the life of American poet Emily Dickinson. Films: "A Quiet Passion;" "Distane Voices, Still Lives;" "Of Time and the City;" "The Long Day Closes."

This is what SF/Arts curator Sura Wood had to say about Terence Davies: Cinema, Memory, Emotion :

Davies, a British director some have called “Proustian,” has established a prestigious resume with beautifully appointed literary adaptations and period dramas in which his sensitivity and keen eye for visual and emotional texture have served him well. Two of his early films, “Distant Voices, Still Lives” and “The Long Day Closes,” and “Of Time and the City,” a 2008 autobiographical work that he narrates, all set in his native Liverpool, are shown here.
