Something from Nothing

University of San Francisco

Something from Nothing: Art and Handcrafted Objects from America's Concentration Camps. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066 and the imprisonment of Japanese-Americans, this exhibition features art and handcrafted objects created by incarcerated Japanese-Americans during WWII. This unique collection tells the story of disrupted lives and the resourcefulness of a marginalized community, mainly of women--who used available materials to preserve home and community traditions amidst scarcity.
