The Eye in the Sky: Trevor Paglen

Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University

The Eye and the Sky: Trevor Paglen in the Cantor Collection is the first installation in the new series In Context. This focused exhibition (approx. 15 works) positions contemporary photographer Trevor Paglen's 2010 workTime Study (Predator; Indian Springs, NV) alongside the work of seminal 19th-century artist Eadweard Muybridge. Paglen's haunting images engage with the grand tradition of late 19th- and early 20th-century American landscape photography, raising and responding to questions about technologically mediated visual perception.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about The Eye in the Sky: Trevor Paglen :

Ultra-genius Trever Paglen’s work challenges us to consider the role of technology in our perception. Here his contemporary photography is shown alongside iconic works by 19th- and 20th-century master works drawn from the collection, as the first in a new exhibition series titled “In Context” and as part of the Cantor Art Center’s new artist-in-residence program.
