Chris Doyle: Hollow and Swell

Catharine Clark Gallery

Presenting an exhibition of new animations and watercolors by Chris Doyle. Conversation with the artist and Alice Gray Stites, Chief Curator and Museum Director of 21c Museum Hotels: Saturday, September 9, 4:30PM. Opening Reception: Saturday, September 9, 3-6PM

This is what SF/Arts curator Sura Wood had to say about Chris Doyle: Hollow and Swell :

Chris Doyle’s colorful, head-turning animations constitute the final chapter of his response to “The Course of Empire (1833-1836),” a five-part series by Hudson River painter Thomas Cole. “Swell,” a 4K work, accompanied by an original score, envisions a city whose tech revolution has come at a cost to humanity and nature, while “The Price of Gold,” projected on a folding screen, envelops the viewer in a tangled thicket of golden branches and animal skulls.
