Boundaries & Balance

ACCI Gallery/Berkeley

A juried exhibition of 12" x 12" works. The theme is inspired by the work of Russian artist Kazimir Malevich who, in 1913, created a painting titled Black Square which is said to have been the first painting that wasn't about a thing or of a thing; rather, it focused on the square, which is by its geometric nature, always in balance. A painting within a square format challenges the inherent static balance of the form with its own dynamic balance within the shape.
