Work of Giants

Chinese Historical Society of America

Work of Giants: Chinese Railroad Worker Project. This initiative was launched in 2014, the 145th anniversary of the completion of the United States' first Transcontinental railroad. That year, the US Dept of Labor inducted Chinese railroad workers into the Labor Hall of Honor, presenting an opportunity to change the historical narrative. With this historic occasion, CHSA launched a new chapter by sharing the stories of the descedants of known Chinese railroad workers who helped build the America west.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Work of Giants :

In addition to the Chinese Historical Society’s ongoing exhibitions and programs— including such treasures as artist Frank Wong’s miniature scenes from Chinatown and “Work of Giants: Chinese Railroad Worker Project,” an initiative launched to commemorate the 145th anniversary of the completion of the U.S.’s first Transcontinental railroad—the Julia Morgan-designed building is an added bonus for architecture lovers. The Society regularly features public programs; see site for details.
