Murals: Sandow Birk & Elyse Pignolet

The SFJAZZ Center's second floor features three commissioned tiled murals, created by the team of Sandow Birk, a Los Angeles-based artist is whose past work has embraced social themes across a wide spectrum -- inner-city violence, graffiti, prisons, skateboarding, and a consideration of the Qur'an as relevant to contemporary life in America; and Elyse Pignolet, an American of Filipino descent who grew up in Oakland, California

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Murals: Sandow Birk & Elyse Pignolet :

Two of three enormous tiled murals by California sun-kissed darlings Sandow Birk & Elyse Pignolet grace the public spaces of SFJAZZ Center; a third adorns the green room. The series presents a fictionalized cityscape of jazz fantasy, in their inimitable collaborative style: cartoonish and serious, savagely funny and pointedly political. Always awesome.
