SF/Arts Curator Insight
The great Japanese, hand-drawn animation genius, Hayao Miyazaki, known for his dazzling, painterly imagery and lush colors, threatened retirement but, fortunately for us, has emerged with a new feature. Focusing on a motherless 11-year-old boy, he does more than keep his hand in the game, delivering an enchanting masterpiece of gorgeous fantasy, culled from childhood memories of growing up in WW2 Japan, filtered through his extraordinary visual imagination.
